He was soon out of a job for failing a typing test, so he started working for a construction company instead. There he formed a tag team partnership with his former roommate Shelton Benjamin, and they went on to become three-time champions of the OVW Southern Tag Team Championship.

After his victory against The Rockhe was involved in a series of fights to defend his title. First came the feud with The Undertaker, whom he successfully defeated, then came Rebellion and Edge in a handicap match which he also won, then came Big Show at the Survivor Series.
